The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognised two key drivers of worldwide population ageing: longer life expectancies and decreasing fertility rates, largely thanks to improvements in living conditions and advances in medical science. To grasp what population ageing means in the 21st Century, the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya will be organising the webinar on “Epidemiology and Population Ageing in the 21st Century” on the 17th July 2020 (Friday) at 9.00 am (+8GMT).

Professor Dr Robert Graham Cumming

Professor of Epidemiology and Geriatric Medicine,
School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health
The University of Sydney


Professor Robert Cumming studied medicine at The University of New South Wales and then trained as an epidemiologist at Columbia University in New York and at the University of Sydney. He has worked at the University of Sydney since 1990. He has also spent time at University of California San Francisco, the University of Wisconsin and Makerere University in Uganda. Bob is a Life Member of the Australasian Epidemiological Association. Professor Cumming has been doing research for over 20 years on the health problems of older people in Australia. In the last 10 years, he has expanded his research to look at non-communicable diseases and ageing in developing countries in Asia and Africa.
