SUMMARY:CEBP Workshop Series | Control of Confounding II – Regression Mod
els\, Propensity Scores\, Inverse Probability Weighting and G-Formula
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Practice (CEBP
)\, Faculty of Medicine\, Universiti Malaya\, will be organising the third
session of the CEBP Workshop series titled “Control of Confounding II:
Regression Models\, Propensity Scores\, Inverse Probability Weighting and
G-Formula.”\n\n\n\nThis session will introduce participants to more adva
nced approaches for controlling confounding in observational studies and e
pidemiological research. Topics include regression models\, propensity sco
res\, inverse probability weighting\, and the G-formula\, with emphasis on
their interpretation and practical use in research settings.\n\n\n\n🗓
 Dates: 12 June 2026 (Friday)🕘 Time: 9.00 am – 12.00 pm MYT📍 Venue:
  SPM Studio\, Faculty of Medicine\, Universiti Malaya💰 Fee: RM50\n\n\n\
nSpeakers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor Dr Sanjay Rampal Lekhraj Rampal
\n\n\n\nDr Sanjay Rampal is Executive Director of Research Development at
Universiti Malaya and Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health. Medical
ly trained in India\, he served in Malaysia’s Ministry of Health before
earning an MPH from Harvard and a PhD from Johns Hopkins. Since joining Un
iversiti Malaya in 2005\, Dr Rampal has advanced Malaysia’s public healt
h research capacity\, focusing on the epidemiology and prevention of cardi
ovascular and metabolic diseases\, cancer\, and communicable diseases such
as dengue. His methodological expertise spans research design\, biostatis
tics\, and causal inference. He has published 122 peer-reviewed papers (h-
 index: 38 WOS\, 39 SCOPUS) and supervised over 65 postgraduate students.\n
\n\n\nDr Rampal has held major leadership roles\, including Deputy Dean (R
esearch) and Head of the Department of Social &amp\; Preventive Medicine\,
driving transformative growth in research and education. He has led regio
nal and global collaborations\, chaired national speciality committees\, a
nd contributed to Malaysia’s COVID-19 response through research\, policy
\, and public communication. As a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Malays
ia and a global leader\, Dr Rampal is dedicated to advancing public health
  through research excellence\, education\, and collaborative leadership.\n
\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Vivek Jason Jayaraj\n\n\n\nDr Vivek Jason Jay
araj is a Public Health Physician\, currently serving at the National Inst
itutes of Health Malaysia. He has previously served in rural Sabah for sev
eral years prior to his enrollment in postgraduate study. He is a professi
onal with a keen interest in the confluence of data analytics\, epidemiolo
gy\, infectious disease\, and health systems. His portfolio includes key p
rojects on the epidemiology of COVID-19\, the effectiveness of non-pharmac
eutical interventions\, and the comparative impact of health systems on CO
 VID-19 transmission. \n\n\n\nWith a penchant for data-driven solutions\, D
r Vivek has been involved in developing and implementing mathematical\, ti
me-series\, and machine-learning models to forecast the spread of infectio
us diseases\, including dengue\, COVID-19\, and hand\, foot and mouth dise
ase (HFMD). He strongly advocates the integration of data and compassion i
n creating a promising future in healthcare. He relentlessly strives to re
duce the time gaps in data-driven solutions within the realm of infectious
disease and health systems\, working to shape a world where technology an
d humanity meet to improve health outcomes.\n\n\n\nDr Vivek dedicates hims
elf to community outreach with great passion. He led the team to set up po
ur flush pit latrines at the Orang Asli village at Bukit Manchung with a s
anitary education programme. He also conducted risk assessment activities
at Angelcare Nursing Home and Persatuan Pengasih Malaysia during the COVID
-19 pandemic.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is suitable for postgraduate studen
ts\, researchers\, and individuals interested in strengthening their analy
 tical and epidemiological research skills.\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n[wpf
