The ethical argument for mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for healthcare workers

Frontliners in a clinical setting must be vaccinated now that vaccines are available or take a non-clinical role without patient contact.

The priority in a clinical setting will always be patient safety, & the guiding principle is always non-maleficence or ‘do no harm’. Now vaccines are available, healthcare workers must be vaccinated or take non-clinical roles without patient contact.

It is our obligation as healthcare as healthcare providers to protect patients, & it would be unconscionable for hospitals to put patients at risk, by allowing unvaccinated healthcare workers to come into contact with patients.

Dr Tharani Loganathan shares her opinion with FreeMalaysiaToday on the ethical arguments for mandaory COVID-19 vaccination for healthcare workers published on 19th June 2021.
