Launch of the World Health Organisation TRD in the Western Pacific Region’s Regional Training Centre

The Regional Training Centre supported by TDR Western Pacific Region was officiated by Datuk Dr. Hishamshah Mohd Ibrahim on behalf of Tan Sri Dr. Hisham Abdullah on the 25th March 2021.

TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, has been instrumental globally in harnessing scientific collaboration to fight diseases of poverty. It is co-sponsored by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO).

Through implementation research, collaborators have been able to contribute to more effective public health policies and programmes.

These partnerships and international collaborations have been instrumental in bringing together the multi-disciplinary expertise needed to train the next generation of public health specialists.

This RTC will be managed by the Malaysian Global Health Consortium (MGHC). The consortium comprises United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH), the Malaysian Ministry of Health’s Institute for Health Systems Research (IHSR), and the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine of the Universiti Malaya.

The consortium approach leverages the complementary strengths of the institutions involved, while enhancing capacity within each of the partner institutions through collaborative co-management.

Heartiest congratulations to Prof. Dato’ Adeeba Kamarulzaman on her appointment as the RTC Chair, and UM Faculty of Medicine’s Department of Social and Preventive Medicine for achieving this recognition.
