CMCO should be extended until a sustained reduction in new cases

In an interview with the News Strait Times on the 8 November 2020, Professor Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud said the conditional Movement Control Order should be extended until the year end or until the affected areas record a sustained reduction in new cases.

He said that the number of weekly cases in red zones has steadily increased over the last four weeks, however, there has also been an increase in doubling time, which points to a slowing rate of increase.

Dr Awang said that adherence to the existing standard operating procedures (SOP) is key to controlling the outbreak in the high-risk areas. He said the further tightening of the SOP under the current CMCO would not be ideal given the current socio-economic climate in the country.
