The department would like to congratulate Dr Khoo Yi Yi for passing her DrPH viva voce held on November 4, 2020. The title of her thesis is Young-onset Hypertension in Malaysia: A Mixed-Methods Study. The study aimed to determine the epidemiology of young-onset hypertension (YOH) in Malaysia over a ten-year period from 2006 to 2015 and explore underlying behaviours that influence awareness, treatment, and control of YOH. This study has its own set of strengths whereby it utilized three different methodologies: a comprehensive systematic review, analysis of secondary data from three National Health and Morbidity Surveys and a qualitative study that elicited young adults perceptions and experiences about living with hypertension. Dr Khoo Yi Yi was supervised by Associate Professor Dr Nik Daliana Nik Farid, Professor Dr Choo Wan Yuen and Professor Dr Ng Chirk Jenn.
