In an interview with the News Strait Times, Professor Datuk Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud said the backlog in the COVID-19 testing and result dissemination could hinder the effort to track and contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
He also said that the date of positive cases being reported to the public will not be accurate as it reflects the date of the results rather than the date of onset of the infection. He continues that epidemiologists use the date of onset rather than the date of results to determine the Rt.
The backlog will affect contact tracing, especially for the second- and third-generation contacts and the third-generation contacts may have infected others before the results are out.
