SPM Recreation Day

The Department organised a day of fun and games between the Master of Public Health, Master of Medical Science in Public Health and Master of Public Health (Speciality) candidates and the staff of SPM on the 22nd April 2006. Five events namely Futsal, SPM Amusing Race S edition, Table Tennis, Darts and Caroms were played during the day.

Four teams participated in the futsal competition over a two and a half-hour period, with Group C emerging as the winners. There were also four teams in the SARS (SPM Amusing Race S edition) event. It started at around 10.30 a.m, and teams finished the race in about an hour culminating in a game of charades. Group C headed by Dr Noran took first place in the SARS.

The indoor games attracted a lot of interest and enthusiasm. There were 24 participants in the darts games and Prof Saimy emerged as the champion. Whereas Table tennis attracted 16 participants and Dr Siti Rohana quietly emerged as the champion. The Carom competition only concluded at around 3 pm with Dr Azlan Darus emerging as the winner.

A lucky draw was held throughout the afternoon and prizes were given to those present. All the participants fully enjoyed the games and had great fun. This will definitely enter the Guinness Book of SPM Department history as “Most events held in a day between staff and students as far as sports activities are concerned”.

At the end of the day, it was tons of funs and laughter (imagine the sight of shoes flying into the futsal goal). In addition, slow insidious, long lasting muscular and joint pain reminded the staff and students of how physically demanding football can be.

Many thanks to all those who provide support especially Prof Atiya Ab Sallam who kindly and generously contributed financially as well as donated prizes to the winners of the event.

Many thanks as well to the student’s representative Dr Rohana Johan and her group members for their contributions in making this event a success.

Last but not least, thanks to Prof Saimy, Dr Victor, Norizan, Kamar, Syahril, Jaya, Shamsina and others for their contribution and hard work in making the event a success.

In conclusion, this event has been successful and we hope that the SPM department will hold this event yearly with the respective units rotating the organizing responsibility.

We would like to apologize for any short comings during this event and we believe in greater staff student participation in the coming years.
