Nabilla Al-Sadat Abdul Mohsein

Associate Professor Dr Nabilla is a public health specialist focussing on adolescent health and tobacco control issues. Among her achievements in her 29 years of service is being the co-founder and first head of the Student Empowerment and Research Unit (SERU), Student Affairs Division in charge of the enhancement of soft skills and employability of graduates of University of Malaya. She was appointed the first head of the Centre for Population Health (CePH) and has been instrumental in initiating research projects and collaborative work with various departments in the faculty as well as from other universities, national and international. She has published more than 50 articles and research reports on various topics.

As a public health specialist in the Family Health unit, she contributes in teaching principles of family health, medical sociology and health promotion to the Masters of Public Health (MPH), Public Health Doctorate (DrPH), Masters of Psychiatry, Bachelor of Radiology and Bachelor of Bioengineering students. She supervises doctorate students and is an external examiner for Macquarie University, Australia and UKM and acts as an adjudicator for the University of Andhra Pradesh, India. On the research front, Dr Nabilla has continued to pursue research in the areas of her interests – tobacco control and adolescent health despite her busy schedule as an administrator. She is the co-principal investigator of “MyHearts” (Malaysian Health of Adolescents Longitudinal Survey Research Team) which is a collaborative study between the Queens University of Belfast and the University of Malaya with the aid of the Ministry of Health Malaysia. She continues to contribute to CePH (Centre for Population Health) in her capacity as the immediate past head of CePH. She is also an active member of MYCAADH (Clearinghouse Centre for Adolescent Health Research) and MyCAP and has been involved in talks with 1M4U in improving access to health care services to the Malaysian youth.

In addition, she holds the position as a board member of MyWATCH (Malaysian Women Action group on Tobacco Control and Health) and has been actively giving talks at schools and exhibitions. She is also continually appointed as an evaluator of BFHIs (Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative).
