Occupational Health

Occupational Health is the branch of medicine which is involve in the provision of health services and advice to organisations and individuals to ensure that the highest standards of Health and Safety at Work can be achieved and maintained. As more than one third of the life of most invididual are spent at work, the proper workplace environment becomes an important part to ensure that we will stay healthy.

The International Labour Organisation and World Health Organisation Committee on Occupational Health in 1950 state that Occupational Health should aim at –

  1. The promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well being of workers in all occupations;
  2. The prevention among workers of departures from health caused by their working conditions;
  3. The protection of workers in their employment from risks resulting from factors adverse to health; placing and maintenance of a worker in an occupational environment adapted to his physiological and psychological equipment and,
  4. To summarise, the adaption of work to people and of each person to their job.

Clinics

The Occupational Medicine Clinic is a referral clinic for occupational diseases and is open on every Friday in University Malaya Medical Centre.
