Prof Awang's ASM Fellowship lectures was featured on the Star newspaper.

Professor Awang Bulgiba delivered his Fellows' Lecture on the topic "The Evolution of Public Healthcare in Malaysia" on 2 July 2013 at the Auditorium, Research and Innovation Complex, University of Malaya. The presentation was attended by praticipants from within the scientific community from around the country and also from the general public. Professor Awang discussed on the evolution of the healthcare system in Malaysia focusing on the Private and Public funded healthcare. The main point of the talk was featured on the Star newspaper on 18 July 2013, titled "Great strides in Malaysia's healthcare system". Professor Awang discussed on the three grand challenges facing the healthcare system - the rise in lifestyle disases, an ageing population and rapidly spreading infectious diseases. He suggested that to face this challenges preventive health should be given a bigger role where healthcare practitioners should be awarded for keeping people out of hospital.
