The JCUM succesfully conducted the 'Spatio Temporal Modelling Workshop' on the 19th-23rd Dec. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Kameshwaran from IBM, India who focused onthe STEM software on developing disease models.

A/P Dr. Maznah and A/P Dr. Tin Tin Su organised a special lunch to the department to celebrate their recent promotion. The lunch was attended by the academeic and support staff from the department, as well as the Deputy Dean (Infrastructure), Prof. Dr. Johari Surin and the Deputy Dean (Postgraduate) Prof Dr. Christopher Boey. The department had strong representation at the recent APACPH Conference in Seoul, Korea on the 20-22 October 2011. A number of academic staff and students attended and presented oral papers and posters during the conference. Congratulations to A/P Dr. Wong Yut Lin for winnning second place in the ECN photo competition and Loh Kwong Weng (MBBS final year) who won the Young Researcher Award during the conference.

Clinical Epidemiology Evidence Based Medicine Research Workshop JCUM at Sunway Hotel Petaling Jaya. That was aimed this research workshop is to train the clinicians in contributing for the teaching of MBBS Phase IIIA session 2011/2012 students at Klang Campus. 20 participant from Clinicians from UMMC join it. The program was conducted by Prof. Dr. Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud,Dr. Moy Foong Ming, Dr. Rafdzah Ahmad Zaki, Dr. Ng Chong Guan and Dr.Sharmini.

UM-QUB Public Health Research Collaboration Symposium CEPH at Clinical Auditorium UMMC. The seminar was aimed to exchange knowledge and views on adolescent health, cancer prevention and health systems amongst highly distinguished international and local speakers in their respective areas of interest. About 30 participants within the department, faculty of medicine, University Malaya Medical Centre and students relevant to the themes and topics of discussion. Distinguished guests from QUB and UM – about 10 speakers in all different areas of interest.

CEPH Lunch Talk at the department. Topic about Prebiotics, Diarrhoea and Enteral Nutrition. Enteral nutrition (EN) is often provided in order to meet patients’ nutritional requirements, but can potentially be complicated by diarrhoea. About 20 participants within the department, faculty of medicine and University Malaya Medical Centre.It was conducted by Dr Hazreen Abdul Majid.

Health Promotion Board Research Proposal Writing Workshop (JCUM collaboration with LPKM) was conducted at the department. The workshop was aimed to teach and train participants on the research proposal writing skills. 32 participant from Lembaga Promosi Kesihatan Malaysia (LPKM)  and non governmental organisation (NGO). The workshop was aimed to understand the basics of decision analysis. 22 participant from all  the FOM, UMMC, PPUKM, NIRO, Putrajaya Hosp, Health Statistics, NIH. GI Nutritional Study Day CEPH at the department. The seminar was aimed to impart knowledge on gastro-intestinal nutrition and prebiotics. Fifty participants including nutritionists, dieticians, students, academicians and health officers.The invited speakers for the workshop were Dr Hazreen Abdul Majid, lecturer and dietician from the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine.

The JCUM organised a two days workshop on Regression Analysis Using SPSS; conducted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Karuthan Chynna. The workshop was attended by nearly 50 participants, most of whom were postgraduate candidates from UM and other local universities.

The Centre of Population Health (CEPH) conducted the Nutritional Epidemiology Workshop. The workshop was conducted by Professor Dr Liam Joseph Murray and Dr Marie Cantwell from Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. More than 30 participants from Univ. of Malaya and other organisations attended the workshop, which was conducted by applying hands-on practical experience in conduction nutritional epidemiology.

The Centre of Population Health (CEPH) conducted a questionnaire validation workshop; aiming at providing participants with knowledge and practice on designing, pretesting and validating questionaires. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Dr. Andrew Poh from the HELP Graduate School. Particpiants were the core members of the MyHEART and MyBCC research groups.

The JCUM conducted End Note Workshop, which was attended by almost 50 post graduate candidates from UM and other universities. The workshop, which was aimed to provide particpants with hands-on experience with the EndNote program, was conducted by Dr. Moy Foong Ming and Dr. Anselm Su Ting.

Clinics

The Occupational Medicine Clinic is a referral clinic for occupational diseases and is open on every Friday in University Malaya Medical Centre.
